On January 16, actor Saif Ali Khan was subjected to a brutal knife assault during an attempted robbery at his residence in Bandra. This incident occurred at the home he shares with his wife, Kareena Kapoor, and their two children. In his initial interview following the attack, the actor expressed to the Delhi Times his belief that it was a "burglary attempt gone awry." While trying to intervene in the altercation, he suffered stab wounds to his thoracic spine. Following surgery, a fragment of the knife was removed from his body.

What Saif said about the attack

In the course of the discussion, Saif addressed the incident and expressed his intention not to maintain any weapons for enhanced security at his residence in Mumbai. He explained, “Nothing will change. If you begin to do that... because I do not perceive myself as being under threat. It was not a calculated assault. I believe it was merely a burglary attempt that went awry. That unfortunate individual, his life is more troubled than mine.”

‘I would have tried to reason’

He further elaborated on whether he would have approached the situation differently if he found himself in the same room with the intruder again: “I would turn on the light and first ask him, ‘Do you know who I am?’ I believe he would respond, ‘Oh no! I’m in the wrong house.’ Then I would say, ‘Alright, put down the knife and let’s discuss this.’ I think I would have attempted to reason with him. However, it was a blend of anger, outrage, and a sense of self-defence. The events unfolded too rapidly, and my reaction was purely instinctive.”

Saif sustained six injuries during the attack, two of which were significant cuts. He was promptly taken to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery for injuries to his neck and near his spine. The Mumbai police are currently investigating the incident and have apprehended a Bangladeshi national named Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad.

Saif was released from the hospital on January 21 and was seen entering his Bandra residence with bandages on his wrist and neck. He made his first public appearance since the incident a few days later while promoting his forthcoming Netflix film, Jewel Thief.
