8 days ago | 5 Views
Almost three months following the stabbing of actor Saif Ali Khan during a purported burglary attempt, the Mumbai police have presented a 1000-page chargesheet related to the incident. The authorities have provided a substantial amount of evidence against the suspects in court, which includes three fragments of the knife utilized in the assault, recovered from the scene of the crime.
The chargesheet reveals chilling details about the attack
On Tuesday, the Bandra Police announced that they had submitted the charge sheet in the case.
"This chargesheet contains various pieces of evidence collected against the detained suspect, Shariful Islam, and spans over 1000 pages. It references a forensic lab report indicating that the knife fragments discovered at the crime scene, as well as those retrieved from Saif Ali Khan's body and the suspect, are all parts of the same knife," stated the Mumbai Police. They further noted, "Additionally, the fingerprint analysis of the suspect's left hand, obtained during the investigation, has also been included."
The chargesheet incorporates testimonies from more than 70 witnesses, which include Saif, Kareena Kapoor, their household staff, and others. It details the suspect's escape from the crime scene, outlining his route from Bandra to Dadar and then to Worli.
The document reveals that the suspect initially attempted to enter through the main entrance but was blocked by the fingerprint recognition system. Subsequently, he navigated to the rear of the building, utilized the duct area to ascend, and successfully reached the first floor.
“Shariful ascended to the 8th floor via the staircase and entered Saif Ali Khan’s apartment. He was equipped with a knife, a hacksaw blade, and a hammer in his bag. He attacked the caretaker, Eliyama Philip, with the knife while demanding ₹1 crore,” a police officer was quoted by Midday.
During the assault on the caretaker, Saif intervened and apprehended Shariful from behind. “The suspect attempted to stab Saif without realizing his identity. His intention was robbery—he was unaware that he was attacking Saif Ali Khan. Once he recognized the situation, he panicked and fled,” the officer added.
The accused subsequently made his way to the National College bus stop, where he changed into a different set of clothes and spent the night, sleeping until 7 a.m. The following morning, he walked to the Bandra Talao area, where he disposed of the knife and the clothing he had worn previously.
Afterward, the accused lingered outside Bandra railway station for about 20 minutes. When it began to rain, he proceeded to Dadar, where he made several casual purchases, including headphones, and enjoyed a meal of bhurji pav. Eventually, he returned to his home in Worli. According to the police, Shariful’s fingerprint was found to match one discovered in the duct area.
Details regarding Saif's stabbing incident
In January, Saif was assaulted by an intruder, later identified as Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad, who allegedly broke into his home with the intent to commit theft. During a violent altercation, Saif suffered stab wounds to his thoracic spine and other areas of his body. He was urgently transported to Lilavati Hospital for treatment. Saif was discharged from the hospital after undergoing surgery on January 21. Upon his return to his residence in Bandra, he briefly interacted with the media. In response to the incident, Saif and Kareena have increased their home security and are cautious about their children, Taimur and Jeh, being photographed. Saif has also resumed his professional commitments and is currently involved in multiple projects.
