A lot of people were rooting for Sai Pallavi to snag a National Award for her role in Gargi last year, but it ended up going to Nithya Menen for Thiruchitrambalam. In a chat with Galatta Plus, Sai Pallavi shared that she did have her eyes on the award, but for a really nice reason.

Sai Pallavi talks about the National Award

Sai shared in an interview that she has always dreamed of winning a National Award, mainly because of a special saree her grandmother gifted her. She recalled, “When I was about 21, my granny gave me this saree and told me to wear it for my wedding. At that time, she was really unwell and had just had surgery. I thought marriage was on the horizon, even though I hadn’t made my first film yet. By the time I was around 23 or 24, I ended up doing Premam.”

She went on to explain why this award means so much to her, saying, “I figured that one day I’d win a significant award. Back then, the National Award was the big deal. For me, it’s all tied to that saree. Whether I’m hoping for it or feeling the pressure, it’s all connected. But honestly, if people can connect with my character on-screen, that’s what matters most to me. Everything else is just a nice bonus. I really value that connection more than the accolades.”

When Sai didn’t win the award, many fans took to social media to express their disappointment.

Latest projects

Gargi was just the beginning for Sai, who then made waves in Tamil and Telugu with Amaran and Thandel. In Amaran, she portrayed the wife of a soldier, sharing the screen with Sivakarthikeyan. Meanwhile, in Thandel, she took on the role of a fisherman’s lost love who ends up in Pakistani waters by chance. Soon, she’ll be making her Hindi film debut alongside Junaid Khan and in Ramayana with Ranbir Kapoor.
