Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's lives are pretty different from those of their kids. The Deadpool actor recently shared some thoughts on how his four children are growing up in privilege, while he and his wife came from a “working class” background. Even with all the “luxury” their kids enjoy, the 48-year-old actor and the It Ends With Us actress are focused on providing them with “as normal a life as possible.”

Reynolds shared his thoughts about parenting in a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, discussing how he tries not to compare his childhood with that of his four kids—James, 9, Inez, 8, Betty, 5, and Olin, who was born in 2023. He reflected on how he and his wife had very different upbringings. “We both came from working-class backgrounds, and I remember thinking when they were little, ‘Wow, I never had gifts like this as a kid,’ or ‘Takeout was a luxury I didn’t have,’” he said.

But he soon realized that those experiences aren’t something his kids need to worry about. He noted that they already show a lot of gratitude and have a good understanding of the world, which gives them a strong sense of empathy.

Reynolds believes that if his kids can empathize with others, it’s a sign they’re doing well as parents. He acknowledged the differences between their lives and his own childhood, recalling how he used to just head outside and be back by sundown, something he finds hard to imagine for his kids today.
