Fans are pretty sure that Ryan Reynolds threw some shade at Justin Baldoni in Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Marvel star's third installment hit theaters in July 2024, just a few weeks before his wife Blake Lively's film It Ends With Us came out in early August, leading to a box office showdown with the MCU hit. That summer, Lively's movie, which Baldoni directed and co-starred in, sparked a major feud that has since led to some serious legal drama in the New Year.

Marvel fans are seeing Nicepool in a different way now that Blake Lively has made allegations against Justin Baldoni.

With all the drama surrounding the main cast of It Ends With Us, Marvel fans have turned their attention back to Deadpool and Wolverine, featuring Hugh Jackman. They’re particularly interested in a Deadpool variant called Nicepool. Even though Reynolds plays him too, fans have noticed that this character seems to be inspired by Justin Baldoni, based on some sharp observations.

Marvel fans will recall that Nicepool has a hilarious moment where he can't stop raving about Ladypool, who’s voiced by Lively. He excitedly says, “Oh my goodness, wait until you see Ladypool. She’s stunning! She just had a baby, and you wouldn’t even know it!” This prompts Deadpool to chime in, “I don’t think you’re supposed to say that.” Nicepool then confidently declares, “That’s cool. I identify as a feminist.”

Reynolds just happens to be listed as a co-writer for that popular Marvel flick. Besides the Nicepool scene we talked about, TikTok also picked up on a deleted scene with the same character, where he quips, “I’d be right there fighting with you, but my true mission is to kick off a podcast that cashes in on the women’s movement.”

Ryan Reynolds' movie character seemingly references Justin Baldoni

TikTok user americastia pointed out a pretty obvious jab at Baldoni, especially since he’s known for co-hosting the podcast The Man Enough. This show dives into what it means to be a man in today’s world and how strict gender roles impact everyone. Their website explains that the podcast aims to create a welcoming space for diverse viewpoints, discussing topics like masculinity in relationships, body image, privilege, fatherhood, sex, success, mental health, and more. Instead of casting men and masculinity in a negative light, it encourages everyone to engage and thrive together.

The podcast, which has been nominated for multiple Webby Awards, features Jamey Heath, the CEO of Wayfarer Studios and music producer, along with author and journalist Liz Plank as co-hosts alongside the Jane the Virgin star. Notably, Jamey is mentioned in the sexual harassment complaint filed by Blake on December 20, 2024. Meanwhile, Liz announced she would be leaving the show just days after the Simple Favor actress accused Justin of running a smear campaign, among other allegations.

Baldoni seems to have a similar vibe to Nicepool’s take on Blake Lively’s role in Deadpool & Wolverine. Reports suggest he often put her down during the filming of It Ends With Us by sneaking in comments about her body and weight. There’s also a claim that he inappropriately contacted her trainer without her knowledge, insisting that he wanted her to shed pounds in just two weeks, right after she and Reynolds welcomed their fourth child.

Baldoni has denied all the accusations against him. The actor-director has a history of identifying as a feminist and often talks about “undefining masculinity,” which is also the title of his book.

An on-set source previously backed these claims against Baldoni

In August 2024, a Daily Mail article revealed that Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni were both causing a lot of tension on the set of It Ends With Us. While calling out Lively for being “effortlessly rude,” a source pointed out that Baldoni had turned “woke feminism” into his personal brand. The insider also poked fun at both stars, saying they were “extraordinarily similar in that they’re just very special little snowflakes with a crazy amount of privilege and surprisingly little self-awareness.”

Later on, Baldoni filed a lawsuit claiming that Ryan Reynolds had “aggressively” confronted him during a production meeting at the Green Lantern couple’s place, accusing him of “fat shaming” his wife. Justin described the situation, which included other producers and a Sony rep, as “traumatic,” stating he had “never been spoken to like that in his life.”
