Mazaka is scheduled for release on February 26, 2025. Ritu Varma stars as the female lead in this comedic venture and provides her perspective on her character, her transition into a fully commercial film, upcoming projects, a demanding single-take scene in Mazaka, and additional topics. Below is the transcript.

You are known to stay away from commercial potboilers. What made you sign Mazaka?

I hold no opposition to commercial films, having participated in several throughout my career. Upon hearing the narrative of Mazaka from the writer, I was thoroughly impressed. The portrayal of my character, particularly her emotional development, was exceptionally engaging. Each character in the film contributes significantly in their own manner, and the humor is truly delightful. I found myself laughing continuously during the narration, making it impossible for me to decline the opportunity to be part of this film.

Can you tell us about your role in Mazaka?

I portray a college student who has encountered numerous challenges throughout her childhood. The narrative focuses on her journey to overcome these obstacles, her romantic involvement with Sundeep Kishan's character, and the difficulties they encounter stemming from his father. Under the direction of Trinadha Rao, my character has been infused with a new depth, and I sincerely hope that the audience finds it engaging.

Any special moments while working on the film?

Each day resembled a delightful outing. The numerous interactions with the ensemble cast contributed to a pleasurable filming experience. A standout moment was a lengthy single take that I had to execute without any interruptions. This was a particularly intense situation, especially with the esteemed actor Rao Ramesh observing closely. Following the dubbing session, Rao Ramesh Garu took the time to personally reach out to me, expressing his admiration for my performance. This was undoubtedly one of the most meaningful compliments I have received in quite some time.

What was it like working with Sundeep Kishan?

Sundeep brings an energetic presence to the set and is an exceptionally supportive co-star. This marks our initial collaboration, and the chemistry we share on screen is notably compelling. His character is comedic, and the challenges he encounters with his father serve as the central theme of the film, delivered in an engaging manner.

Are you confident that commercial fun films still work at the box office?

Certainly! Commercial cinema is destined to remain timeless. The key factor lies in the manner of storytelling. Numerous Telugu films adhere to conventional plots yet achieve success due to their captivating narration. "Mazaka" exemplifies this trend, as it combines profound emotions with humor, resulting in a delightful family entertainment experience.

You’ve been in the industry for a while. Are you satisfied with your career so far?

Indeed, I am. My journey since my debut in Pelli Choopulu has been remarkable. Throughout the years, I have cultivated a distinct persona, selecting films based on their substance rather than pursuing fame or financial gain. I am now receptive to larger projects and roles that appeal to a broader audience. Mazaka represents one such opportunity, and I am eager to observe how audiences respond to me in this new role.

What are your future projects?

I have successfully finished filming a web series for Hotstar, which is set to premiere soon. Additionally, I have entered into an agreement for a multi-starrer project in Telugu, with further details to be revealed in the near future. I am particularly interested in pursuing female-centric films and would be enthusiastic about participating in a cop drama. This is an opportune moment for such endeavors, given the robust audience demand. At present, my attention is directed towards Mazaka, and I am looking forward to the audience's reaction to my performance.
