Rishab Shetty Reflects on Portraying Chhatrapati Shivaji: ‘It is a Privilege to Represent a National Hero’

Rishab Shetty astonished his fans by unveiling his initial appearance as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in his upcoming film directed by Sandeep Singh. In an interview with the Times of India, the actor expressed that it is a significant ‘honour’ to portray this historical icon, emphasizing the ‘immense pride’ he feels in depicting his narrative on screen.

Rishab expressed to the publication that he has always been captivated by the life of Shivaji, noting that opportunities to portray such significant historical figures in biopics are exceedingly rare for actors. He remarked, “The life and legacy of Shivaji have consistently intrigued me, and I take great pride in being linked to such an esteemed historical personality. Biopics are opportunities that arise only once in a lifetime. As an actor and performer, it is a privilege to bring his narrative to the cinematic realm.”
Furthermore, the actor mentioned that the director's ambitious vision for the film prompted him to accept the role without hesitation. “Sandeep’s vision for the film was so impressive that I immediately agreed to participate as soon as I learned about it. He is a national hero whose influence extends beyond history, and I feel a profound sense of pride in depicting his story on screen,” he stated. Rishab Shetty also expressed his eagerness to present a film rich in drama, grandeur, and emotion to the audience.
About Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
Recently, Rishab took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to unveil the first-look poster for his forthcoming film, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He announced that the film is set to premiere in theatres in January 2027.
He stated, “It is our honor and privilege to present the epic saga of India’s greatest warrior king – The Pride of Bharat: #ChhatrapatiShivajiMaharaj. #ThePrideOfBharatChhatrapatiShivajiMaharaj. This film transcends mere entertainment; it serves as a battle cry to commemorate a warrior who defied overwhelming odds, confronted the formidable Mughal empire, and established an indelible legacy.”
In addition to this project, Rishab has agreed to star in Prasanth Varma’s Jai Hanuman, a sequel to his successful superhero film HanuMan. He is also involved in directing and acting in the prequel to Kantara, titled Kantara: Chapter 1.
