Remo D'Souza is well-acquainted with the realm of reality television. For the past 16 years, he has taken on the roles of judge and mentor in various programs, including Dance India Dance, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, Nach Baliye, and India's Best Dancer, among others. Currently, he is serving as a judge for the second season of Hip Hop India, a dance reality show focused on hip-hop. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Remo discusses his experiences while promoting the show and addresses inquiries regarding the perception of reality shows as being 'scripted'.

Remo on Hip Hop India

The second season of Hip Hop India surpasses its predecessor, according to Remo, who states, "What I am discovering this season is that there is no limit to growth. Just when you think you've reached your peak, something unexpected arises to astonish you. India is rich in talent, a fact I have always recognized. However, what we are witnessing now reinforces my belief that we rank among the best globally."

Remo notes that today's dancers have numerous opportunities and platforms available to them, yet he believes his own challenges were worthwhile. "If I could go back and advise my 20-year-old self, I wouldn't suggest any changes. Just continue on the path you are on," he remarks with a chuckle.

Remo addresses ‘reality shows are scripted’ charge

Over the years, Indian reality television has faced allegations of scripted moments and exaggerated drama to boost television ratings, with claims of manipulated outcomes. In response to these accusations, Remo states, "Even my close friends inquire, 'Tell me the truth, this was scripted, right?' I consistently assure them that throughout my 15 years in the industry, all reality shows have been authentic. None of the programs have been rigged or altered. It is as genuine as my presence here," explains the choreographer-turned-filmmaker.

Currently, Hip Hop India season 2 is available for streaming on Amazon MX Player, with Remo and Malaika Arora serving as judges for this season.
