Regina Cassandra Discusses Bollywood's Changing Attitude Toward South Actors: "Now, They Have No Choice"
22 days ago | 5 Views
In the past, there was a pretty clear divide between South and North Indian films. Lately, though, Bollywood has been welcoming a lot more South actors into the mix. Many South Indian movies have hit it big and gained a lot of fans. Over time, these actors have gained recognition and started appearing in Hindi films.
This blending of the two industries shows how different film worlds can come together as actors team up.
But according to South Indian actress Regina Cassandra, this kind of acceptance hasn’t always been the case. She shared her thoughts on CNN-News 18 Showsha, discussing how South Indian actors were once viewed in Bollywood.
Bollywood had a bit of an attitude
In a recent interview with Showsha, Regina shared her thoughts on how Bollywood views South actors. She mentioned, “These days, they really don’t have a choice. In the past, it felt a bit elitist. If they found out you were from the South, it was a different story. I’m not sure if it was just the language barrier, but that never bothered me. Plus, I don’t fit the typical South Indian look. Maybe that worked in my favor. Now, it seems like they genuinely need South actors, especially after the pandemic, to attract a larger audience.”
This highlights that even though there was some reluctance in the past, Bollywood has recognized the talent coming from the South and is now leveraging it to create successful films and connect with a broader audience. Regina’s comment about Bollywood not having a choice suggests that the industry is adapting to stay relevant.
