Sandeep Reddy Vanga recently shared in an interview that his film Kabir Singh made things pretty challenging for the cast when it came to finding work. He pointed fingers at certain 'gangs' in Bollywood who turned their backs on him and his team, probably because they saw his movie as misogynistic or not up to their standards.

'We're not going to team up with you'

In a chat with trade expert Komal Nahta, Vanga shared a story about a young actor who appeared alongside Shahid Kapoor in Kabir Singh. This actor was told he wouldn’t be considered for a role due to his connection with Vanga.

“There’s this major production house in Bombay, but I’d rather not name it. It’s not that I’m afraid; I just prefer to keep it under wraps. A certain actor from Kabir Singh went in for an audition. After he finished, they told him, ‘You were in Kabir Singh, right? We’re not going to cast you because of that.’”

'Bright little one'

Sandeep Reddy Vanga called out the hypocrisy of those who previously advised against collaborating with him, suggesting they should give the same advice to Ranbir Kapoor since he's working with him on Animal. He pointed out that these production houses had no issues teaming up with big names like Triptii Dimri, Rashmika Mandanna, and Vishal Mishra. If they were truly bold, he dared them to stop working with those stars as well.

Vanga also mentioned that he told the young actor not to take it personally since the production house wasn't really doing anything impressive. “They said, ‘You were in that film, our company won’t hire you.’ I replied, ‘No big deal, they’re not making the next Avatar or anything. Just let it go.’”

His comments sparked a lot of chatter on Reddit, with many users calling his remarks ‘unhinged.’ One comment noted, “He does have a point,” while another said, “This guy is unhinged.” Another user shared, “I may not be a fan of his films, haven’t even seen them, but I respect his honesty and work ethic. It takes guts to speak like this.”

Kabir Singh, released in 2019, was a massive success, featuring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani. It was the Hindi remake of the Telugu hit Arjun Reddy, also directed by Vanga. However, it faced criticism for its portrayal of toxic masculinity and misogyny, issues that Vanga still grapples with.
