Alan Ritchson recently opened up regarding his contentious relationship with his former high school classmate, Matt Gaetz. In an interview with GQ released on Wednesday, the star of Reacher admitted that he and the former Florida representative are considered "adversaries."

Ritchson expressed strong sentiments regarding Gaetz, stating, “We are adversaries.” This comment followed the House Ethics Committee report from the previous year, which accused Gaetz of serious offences, including “prostitution, statutory rape, and illicit drug use.” The actor, known for his role in Smallville, further criticized the voters in Florida for their continued support of the 42-year-old politician.

“It is astonishing to me that the residents of the Florida panhandle persist in voting for someone—given all that we know about him and the commitments he has made in private regarding the pardoning of certain criminals—he is simply not a good person!” Ritchson remarked.

As reported, Ritchson's family relocated briefly to Illinois during his youth before establishing their home in Niceville, Florida, where he and Gaetz attended school together. The actor, who stars in Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, revealed that he has contemplated entering politics to counteract the negative impact of politicians like Gaetz.

“There is a part of me that desires to enter politics to surpass someone like him for the greater good, yet another part of me feels that I lack the duplicity required to thrive in that arena,” Ritchson stated. He continued, “Some individuals manage to remain authentic to themselves, but they often lack effectiveness. I regard Bernie Sanders as a hero, but one must question, what has he truly achieved?”

In another segment of the interview, Ritchson elaborated on his portrayal of the lead character in the action television series Reacher. “Reacher and I share a significant similarity in this regard,” he noted, adding, “Reacher embraces violence and seeks out trouble, and I find myself doing the same. However, in reality, it is challenging to emerge unscathed.”
