1 month ago | 5 Views
Rashmika Mandanna, who is presently enjoying the success of her film Chhaava, has faced criticism for allegedly neglecting the Kannada language. Congress MLA Ravikumar Gowda Ganiga has voiced his dissatisfaction regarding Rashmika's perceived indifference towards Kannada cinema and culture, suggesting that she requires a lesson in accountability.
Congress MLA slams Rashmika
"Rashmika Mandanna, who began her career with the Kannada film Kirik Party in Karnataka, declined our invitation to the International Film Festival last year. She remarked, 'I have my house in Hyderabad, I don’t know where Karnataka is, and I don’t have time. I can't come,'" Ganiga stated to reporters at Vidhana Soudha on Monday.
He further accused the actress of 'overlooking Kannada' and mentioned, "One of our legislative colleagues visited her residence 10 to 12 times to extend an invitation, but she consistently refused and showed disregard for Kannada, despite her upbringing in the industry here. Shouldn’t we impart a lesson to them?"
Previously, Rashmika's comments during the Chhaava event led many of her Kannada fans to accuse her of 'disowning' her heritage. While addressing the audience, Rashmika stated, "Because I'm from Hyderabad, and I have come alone, today I hope I am a part of all of your family." This statement left her Kannada supporters feeling disheartened.
Rashmika hails from Coorg, a region in Karnataka. She made her film debut with the Kannada movie Kirik Party alongside Rakshit Shetty. However, it was her performances in Telugu films such as Geetha Govindam, Dear Comrade, and Sarileru Neekevvaru that garnered her widespread acclaim. Her role in Pushpa: The Rise alongside Allu Arjun further solidified her national recognition.
Rashmika Mandanna's upcoming films
Rashmika is currently reveling in the success of her latest release, Chhaava. This historical action drama, featuring Vicky Kaushal, Akshaye Khanna, Vineet Singh, Divya Dutta, and Ashutosh Rana in prominent roles, has become India's highest-grossing film of 2025 thus far, amassing over ₹600 crore at the global box office.
She is set to appear next in Sikandar, where she will share the screen with Salman Khan in an action drama directed by AR Murugadoss and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The film is slated for release on Eid this year.
