Rashmika Mandanna’s ‘I’m from Hyderabad’ Remark Stirs Debate Online

1 month ago | 5 Views

Rashmika Mandanna hails from Coorg, a region located in Karnataka. Although she initially entered the film industry through Kannada cinema, it is in Telugu films that she achieved significant recognition. Over time, numerous fans from her Kannada background have expressed feelings of being 'disowned' by her. A recent video featuring the actress stating that she is from Hyderabad has further intensified these sentiments.

The widely circulated clip, originating from a pre-release event for her upcoming film Chhaava, captures Rashmika addressing the audience from the stage. She remarked, "Because I'm from Hyderabad, and I have come alone and today I hope I am a part of all of your family," which elicited applause from the crowd. Following this, Rashmika took a moment to express her gratitude before beaming at the audience.

Internet bashes Rashmika's remark

The brief video was disseminated on Twitter (now X) without any accompanying context, featuring the caption: "I occasionally feel sympathy for you due to the unwarranted negativity and targeting from our fellow Kannadigas. However, when you make remarks like this, I believe they are justified, and you warrant the criticism."

Numerous individuals remarked that such statements are typical of Rashmika. One user commented, "It seems she attempts to overly impress the Telugu audience and the Telugu film industry, resulting in comments like this." Another user stated, "What a manipulative individual."

Conversely, some offered a more nuanced perspective. One tweet noted, "It represents a larger market, making it a shrewd career decision rather than an issue of loyalty."

Fans defend the actor's statement

Numerous supporters of the actress also came to her defense. One individual shared a tweet from Rashmika dating back to 2024, in which she expressed her affection for Coorg, stating, "She consistently asserts her roots in Coorg and often dons Kodava sarees. You all extract clips devoid of context and cast blame upon her. She indicated that she currently resides in Hyderabad, having traveled from Hyderabad to Mumbai with an injury. On countless occasions, she has reiterated that she hails from Coorg!"

Others condemned the individuals who were trolling her. One commenter remarked, "It is a vicious cycle... Why would she seek an identity from a place where she faces daily harassment?" Another added, "She made this decision because you all criticized her personal life choices... so she altered her birthplace... and faced trolling once more. At this juncture, no one should overstep their boundaries." Many others shared recent interview segments in which the actress discussed her connection to Coorg.
