Rashmika Mandanna Clarifies Mistake About Ghilli and Pokiri, Says "Sorry!"

Rashmika Mandanna, originally from Coorg, has established herself in the Telugu and Tamil film industries. During an interview with MissMalini, she confidently referred to Vijay’s Tamil film Ghilli as a remake of Mahesh Babu’s Telugu film Pokiri, despite the inaccuracy. When the online community quickly corrected her, her response was noteworthy.
What Rashmika Mandanna said
In the interview, Rashmika was asked about the first film she watched in a theater. She stated, “Ghilli. The reason I often express my admiration for Vijay Thalapathy sir is that it was the first film in which I saw him perform.”
Without any prompting, she added, “Ghilli is a film that I recently learned is a remake of a movie called Pokiri. I was unaware of this. I enjoyed it, and the song Appadi Podu—oh my goodness! I have performed to that song for a significant part of my life.”
Rashmika also mentioned that her father frequently watched Rajinikanth films, but for her, Vijay and Trisha were the first actors she admired on screen, leading her to express her affection for them.
How Rashmika responded to the snafu
In response to the correction regarding her earlier statement, Rashmika acknowledged the mistake. A user on X (formerly Twitter) pointed out, “#Ghilli is a remake of #Pokkiri enti raashu #RashmikaMandanna.” She replied, “Yes, I know, sorry. I made a mistake. I realized after the interview that Ghilli is a remake of Okkadu, while Pokiri is simply Pokiri. I understand that people are discussing this on social media. My apologies, but I truly love all of their films, so it’s alright.”
Upcoming work
Rashmika made her debut in the Kannada film industry with Kirik Party in 2016, followed by her entry into Telugu cinema with Chalo in 2018, and her Tamil debut with Sulthan in 2021. In 2023, she appeared alongside Vijay in Varisu, directed by Vamshi Paidipally. Recently, she was featured in Pushpa 2: The Rule, and she is set to star in upcoming projects including Kubera and The Girlfriend in Telugu, as well as Sikandar, Chhaava, and Thama in Hindi.
