The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, provided influencer Ranveer Allahbadia with protection from arrest concerning multiple FIRs related to his purportedly inappropriate comments made during a YouTube program. The Court also expressed strong disapproval of his statements.

Shame to his parents

According to a report by Bar and Bench, Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh criticized Ranveer for his remarks on the show. They stated, "The language you have employed will bring shame to your parents. Daughters and sisters will feel humiliated. The entire society will be embarrassed. This reflects the depths of depravity to which you and your associates have sunk. The rule of law must be upheld. He should feel ashamed of the disgrace he has brought upon his parents. We are not isolated from reality; we are aware of how he has imitated content from an Australian show. Such programs come with warnings," the Court remarked.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court emphasized the necessity of condemning such conduct.

"Is it acceptable for someone to believe that their popularity grants them the liberty to use any language and disregard societal norms? Is there anyone who would endorse this type of language? There is something profoundly disturbing in his mindset that has been expressed," the apex court stated.

Some relief for Ranveer Allahbadia

Nonetheless, the Supreme Court granted him some relief, acknowledging the arguments presented by senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, who represented the influencer, regarding the need for protection from coercive measures. The advocate also mentioned that Allahbadia has been receiving death threats.

In addition to providing protection from coercive actions related to FIRs filed in Mumbai and Guwahati, the bench ruled that no additional FIRs could be filed against him for his comments made during the YouTube show "India's Got Latent."

Furthermore, the top court prohibited Allahbadia and his fellow influencers from broadcasting any further episodes of the controversial YouTube show until further notice.

The Court instructed Allahbadia to surrender his passport to the Thane police station and stipulated that he must not leave the country without prior court approval.

The bench further instructed Allahbadia to assist in the investigation of the FIRs filed in Maharashtra and Assam.
