Ranveer Allahbadia on India's Got Latent row and mental health
In his podcast released on Monday, Ranveer engages in a dialogue with Buddhist Monk Palga Rinpoche on his YouTube channel.
During the conversation, Ranveer expressed in Hindi, "My mental health suffered during that period... I was reflecting on what other mistakes I might have made beyond that comment. I practiced meditation to find some peace... My family was affected, and I felt devastated. Throughout that time, I had to manage my own emotions, my family, and my team. I kept questioning myself, 'What just happened?’ I faced numerous losses, hurt my family members, and endured a lot.”
“I am in a phase of self-reflection, yet I have not discovered the answers. The path to transformation involves learning from errors and progressing... I aim to help Indians understand. My personal goals have taken a backseat,” he remarked.
Ranveer further stated, “In these past three weeks, I have gained a deeper understanding of the world. I do not mean this negatively. Such circumstances reveal people's true nature. I witnessed much goodness in others. My close friends and mentors supported me, and even strangers reached out to offer assistance. Some suggested that I should consider stepping away from content creation for one to two years, as this incident might stem from a series of long-term mistakes on my part. However, I believe I have arrived at this point through my own efforts and dedication. Therefore, if I need to extricate myself from this predicament, it will also require action and hard work.”
All about the India’s Got Latent row involving Ranveer
In February, Ranveer Allahbadia became embroiled in controversy following his appearance on an episode of India's Got Latent, alongside Apoorva Mukhija and Ashish Chanchlani. During the show, he posed a provocative question to a contestant: "Would you rather watch your parents engage in sexual activity every day for the rest of your life or participate once to end it forever?"
While the audience initially responded with laughter, the comment sparked outrage among certain politicians and social media users. This led to significant backlash, resulting in multiple FIRs filed against the show's producers and participants. In a subsequent apology video posted on X, Ranveer acknowledged that his statement was not only inappropriate but also lacked humor. He also issued a formal written apology to the National Commission for Women (NCW) regarding his offensive remarks. Several FIRs were filed against him, known popularly as BeerBiceps, due to his comments about parents and sexual matters. Although the Supreme Court provided him with interim protection from arrest, it criticized his remarks as "vulgar" and suggested he possessed a "dirty mind" that brought shame to society.
