Actor Randeep Hooda is reuniting with director Sam Hargrave for the action-packed film Matchbox, which stars Hollywood icon John Cena. Hooda had previously worked with Hargrave in the 2020 blockbuster Extraction, alongside Chris Hemsworth, where he played a significant role.

In Matchbox, Randeep Hooda will share the screen with John Cena and Teyonah Parris, known for her role in The Marvels. The 48-year-old actor expressed his excitement about reuniting with director Sam Hargrave, stating, "Excited to be working with Sam again. We had a great time on our first collaboration with Extraction. Sam is a master of high-octane storytelling and action. Glad to be joining the team in Budapest."
Extraction, Hargrave's directorial debut for Netflix, also featured Golshifteh Farahani, Priyanshu Painyuli as the antagonist, and Pankaj Tripathi in a cameo role.
About Matchbox
Matchbox, which also stars Jessica Biel and Sam Richardson, is set to be an action-packed, globetrotting adventure. The story follows a group of childhood friends who must come together to prevent an impending worldwide disaster while rediscovering their bond along the way.
The live-action film is based on the iconic Matchbox car toy line, created by Jack Odell in 1953 when he made a toy small enough to fit in a matchbox for his daughter. Today, Mattel reports that two Matchbox cars are sold every second globally.
The project has been acquired by Apple Original Films and is being developed by Skydance and Mattel Films. Sam Hargrave directs the film, based on a screenplay by David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper. The movie will be produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger for Skydance, alongside Robbie Brenner for Mattel Films and Jules Daly.
Randeep Hooda, who recently directed and starred in Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, has several exciting projects in the pipeline. He is currently filming Jaat, directed by Gopichand Malineni, starring alongside Sunny Deol, and produced by the same banners behind Pushpa 2: The Rule. He is also set to star in Arjun Ustara, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.
