MT Vasudevan Nair’s Randamoozham is regarded as one of the most cherished literary masterpieces in the Malayalam language. This acclaimed novel was anticipated to be adapted into a film several years ago, with Mohanlal set to portray the lead role of Bheeman. Following the passing of MT Vasudevan Nair, it was rumoured that the esteemed author’s family intended to pursue a cinematic adaptation of Randamoozham, with Mani Ratnam allegedly being approached for the project. Nevertheless, MT’s daughter, Ashwathy Nair, has recently dispelled these rumours.
Mani Ratnam is not associated with Randamoozham
Recently, there were rumours that the family of MT Vasudevan Nair reached out to Mani Ratnam regarding the direction of the film adaptation of Randamoozham. It was suggested that the esteemed director declined the opportunity due to his packed schedule but recommended another filmmaker for the endeavour. Reports indicate that MT Vasudevan Nair’s family has been in close collaboration with Mani Ratnam, who has maintained a cordial personal relationship with the renowned writer, in order to finalize the director for the project.
The daughter of the Jnanpith award recipient, dancer and filmmaker Ashwathy Nair, recently dismissed the circulating rumors during a conversation with Mathrubhumi Online. She clarified that Mani Ratnam is not involved in any capacity with the adaptation of the film Randamoozham. Additionally, she stated that the esteemed filmmaker did not participate in the selection process for the director of Randamoozham. Nonetheless, Ashwathy Nair affirmed that a film adaptation of the novel is indeed forthcoming, which has generated considerable excitement among enthusiasts of Malayalam literature and cinema.

Previously, it was announced that the film Randamoozham would be directed by VA Shrikumar, known for his work on Odiyan. Mohanlal was confirmed to portray the lead role of Bheeman. Unfortunately, the project faced numerous delays and was ultimately put on hold. Additionally, MT Vasudevan Nair initiated legal action against VA Shrikumar due to the director's failure to return the script. In a recent interview with Mathrubhumi, Ashwathy Nair affirmed that the film is now poised to commence production shortly.
