Kannada actress Ramya (Divya Spandana) is perhaps the only from Sandalwood who has openly criticized actor Darshan for his alleged involvement in the torture and death of his fan. While there have been a few isolated voices giving him the benefit of doubt and that he should be considered innocent until proven guilty, Ramya has held her ground from the time Darshan was arrested.

Ramya's take on Darshan's case

It began when she retweeted a post by an industry tracker page, which listed the possible quantum of punishment Darshan could face if he is found guilty. She followed that up with a long Instagram story post in which she highlighted that she too, like many other actors, has been subjected to immense online trolling in the past.

While she has blocked and reported relentless trollers, Ramya has also filed police complaints against some perpetrators, and later withdrawn the same on compassionate grounds. The actress added that the best course of action for Darshan would have been to trust law enforcement to deal with his ‘problem’, instead of judge, jury and executioner himself.

Speaking to a media channel, Ramya added that unlike earlier, Darshan does not have the kind of clout he used to enjoy once upon a time, perhaps because he is a habitual offender and has gotten away with domestic abuse and other assault charges in the past. She reckons that if Darshan indeed had massive clout, all his films would have been superhits, which is not the case and that the candidates he campaigned for more recently would have won in the election.

Ramya noted that the 20-30 odd fans hanging around outside the police station are not indicative of Darshan’s clout. She, however, made it a point to add that these so-called fans are notorious and rowdy elements, which is why they are grabbing everyone’s attention.

Several media houses have been highlighting that Darshan’s fan base largely comprises people from the lower strata of society, with some going to the extent of calling them uncouth and illiterate, going by the obscene and offensive tirade many of them unleash on social media in defense of DBoss.
