Ramya Teases Return to Cinema – Will Her Next Be a Sports-Based Film?
12 days ago | 5 Views
Since Kannada actress Ramya transitioned from the film industry to engage in active politics, her fans have consistently inquired about her potential return to cinema. After several years away, she expressed her willingness to return to the screen; however, the two projects she initially considered for her comeback did not materialize as expected. The first was her home production, Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye, a role she ultimately assigned to Siri Ravikumar. The second project, Uttarakaanda, was one she opted out of due to the extensive commitment required, as it includes a sequel.

Each time the topic of a potential return to acting arose, Ramya consistently expressed her stance: she was not interested in revisiting the roles she portrayed two decades ago and sought something new. Regrettably, the majority of scripts presented to her mirrored her past experiences, and she was unwilling to become merely an accessory in a film once more. However, it appears that Ramya has finally discovered the project she has been searching for.
The sports-based subject by Preetha and Brinda is the only different script Ramya got
The only distinctive script that Ramya received was a sports-themed narrative from Preetha and Brinda. During a panel discussion on Women in Cinema at the ongoing Bengaluru International Film Festival, Ramya emphasized the significant shortage of quality roles for women, using Malayalam cinema as a benchmark for how Kannada films could improve character development across genders. “Aside from the story that Preetha (Jayaraman) and Brinda (Gopal) approached me with – a sports-based subject – everyone else continues to offer me the same types of roles I played 20 years ago. I no longer wish to engage in just a few scenes, comedy, and songs,” Ramya stated.

During a break in the panel discussion, Ramya mentioned that the project she has tentatively approved is still under development, and she intends to make a formal announcement when the appropriate moment arises. Recently, Ramya has expressed her belief that storytelling should evolve beyond the traditional emphasis on heroes and machismo.
Additionally, there are indications that Ramya is set to work with director Yogaraj Bhat on his upcoming film, which is expected to commence production following the release of Manada Kadalu.
