Ramya Talks About Her Potential Comeback to Kannada Cinema

It has been ten years since Kannada actress Ramya transitioned from her film career to fully engage in politics. During her active political involvement, she served as the Member of Parliament for Mandya and later took on a significant role managing social media for a national party. Her political commitments kept her quite occupied. Throughout this period, her fans remained optimistic about her return to acting; however, even after stepping away from active politics, she did not express any intentions to return to the film industry.

Ramya: I've not been able to find something interesting

In recent years, there have been several films that Ramya was initially reported to be involved in but ultimately did not participate. She has suggested that a return to the film industry is possible, although she has not specified a timeline for this. Given her infrequent public appearances, she often encounters inquiries regarding her potential return to acting. At a recent trailer launch event, when asked about this, she stated that while she is not dismissing the idea of a comeback, it would need to be for a role that diverges from her previous work.

"I have struggled to find something that captivates my interest. I am not inclined to repeat past roles. If I am to return to a film set, it must be to offer audiences something fresh and engaging. Thus far, I have not encountered such a project, but should I find one, I will certainly take on both production and acting responsibilities," she conveyed in an interview with TV9 Kannada. Regarding her production company, she mentioned, "Currently, I have no plans to act or produce anything under the banner. However, if a compelling script presents itself, I will certainly consider it."

Additionally, it was after the Covid-19 pandemic that Ramya declared her intention to become a producer. Her inaugural project was to be penned and directed by Raj B Shetty, marking her anticipated return to the big screen. The film, titled Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye, was officially announced, and preparations were underway when Ramya decided that the role would be better suited for a relatively new talent, leading her to withdraw from the project.

Subsequently, KRG Studios enlisted her for a significant role in the two-part gangster narrative Uttarakaanda, directed by Rohit Padaki. Ramya attended the film's muhurtha ceremony. However, several months later, as the shooting was about to commence, Ramya was no longer associated with Uttarakhand. The role was subsequently assigned to Aishwarya Rajesh, marking her debut in Kannada cinema with this film.
