The excitement surrounding Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana is at an all-time high, with every new update making headlines. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash in the leading roles, this magnum opus began filming earlier this year, generating a frenzy among fans. As production continues, rumors and speculations about the casting have been widespread. One such rumor that circulated in March was about Harman Baweja joining the film, replacing Vijay Sethupathi as Vibhishan. While the news initially seemed believable, nothing more was said on the matter. However, Baweja has now cryptically confirmed that these rumors were untrue.
Harman Baweja Not Playing Vibhishan?
For those unfamiliar, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as the mighty Ravana. The cast also includes Lara Dutta, Sheeba Chaddha, Sunny Deol, Rakul Preet Singh, and others. Initially, there were rumors that Vijay Sethupathi had been cast as Vibhishan, but he later exited the project for unknown reasons. It was then speculated that Harman Baweja would replace him. However, it seems this is not the case.
In a recent interview with PTI, Harman, who was last seen in Netflix’s Scoop—created by Hansal Mehta—clarified that he is not currently involved in any major acting projects. Appreciated for his role in Scoop, Baweja was asked about his future plans, to which he responded that he hasn't signed anything new since the series. Baweja, who returned to acting after a decade for the show starring Karishma Tanna, shared, "God has been kind; I will not deny that I've been approached [for acting roles]. But I haven't signed anything after Scoop. As an actor, I'm not doing anything substantial. I did Scoop after ten years, which worked out well. For me, it was a small but strong part."
He further explained that his focus now lies in producing, distributing, and creating new projects. "About 95 to 96 percent of my work will be in production. I don’t think I’ll be filming as an actor for more than 10 to 15 days in the next two to three years," Baweja said. This statement confirms that he is not part of Ramayana. While it’s possible that he was offered the role of Vibhishan and passed on, he is not currently associated with the film.
About Ramayana
The latest rumor regarding Ramayana was perhaps the most shocking and exciting. Reports suggested that Nitesh Tiwari and his team had approached renowned composer Hans Zimmer—famous for Dune, Dunkirk, and The Dark Knight—to compose the score for Ramayana. Zimmer is said to be in active discussions and intrigued by Tiwari’s vision. If confirmed, he would work alongside legendary composer AR Rahman.
Meanwhile, filming for Ramayana is already underway in Mumbai’s Film City, where massive sets have been constructed. Recently, leaked photos from the set showed Lara Dutta, Arun Govil, and Sheeba Chaddha in costume.
