Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has been making waves online lately after revealing that his iconic film Satya is set to hit theaters again. He even shared that he got emotional while rewatching it. But amidst the excitement, there's some serious drama brewing, as the Andheri Magistrate Court in Mumbai sentenced him to three months in prison on Tuesday. Reports indicate that a non-bailable warrant has been issued against the director known for Rangeela. Keep reading to find out all the details.

Ram Gopal Varma has been given a 3-month jail sentence

Ram Gopal Varma has been found guilty under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, according to Telangana Today. This law deals with the penalties for bounced cheques due to insufficient funds or exceeding the account limit. He’s facing three months in jail and has to cough up Rs 3.75 lakh in compensation to the complainant. If he doesn’t pay up, he could end up serving an additional three months, totaling six months behind bars.

For those who might not know, the case against Varma dates back to 2018 when a cheque he issued bounced. The complaint was lodged by a company called Shree, represented by Maheshchandra Mishra, against Varma's company. In June 2022, he got bail on a personal bond with a Rs 5,000 security deposit. The magistrate made it clear that there won’t be any 'set-off under Section 428 of the Code of Criminal Procedure' since Varma wasn’t in custody during the trial.

Ram Gopal Varma missed the hearing, and everyone is waiting for a detailed judgment on the situation. He did, however, share his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), saying:

“Regarding the news about me and the Andheri court, I want to clarify that this is related to a 7-year-old case involving ₹2 lakh 38 thousand concerning my former employee. My lawyers are handling it, and since it’s in court, I can’t comment further.”

The director of Satya recently revealed that he’s working on a new film called Syndicate. He posted on X: “The film is titled SYNDICATE. It’s about a terrifying organization that poses a threat to the very EXISTENCE of INDIA.” He went on to say: “SYNDICATE will be a very SCARY FILM, not because of any supernatural stuff, but because it will SHOCKINGLY reveal the HORRORS HUMAN BEINGS ARE CAPABLE OF.”
