Ram Gopal Varma, renowned for his direction of films such as Company, Satya, and Sarkar, recently engaged in a conversation with Pinkvilla regarding the distinction between an actor and a star. He also commented on the notion that he might be uncertain if Rajinikanth could thrive "without slow motion."

RGV says Rajinikanth can't do a Bhikhu Mhatre

In a discussion regarding the difference between a star and an actor, RGV referenced Rajinikanth, stating, "Acting pertains to embodying a character, whereas being a star relates to delivering a performance. There exists a significant distinction between the two. Is Rajinikanth a proficient actor? I am uncertain. I doubt Rajinikanth could portray a character like Bhikhu Mhatre. However, with Rajinikanth, audiences are inclined to appreciate him in that manner. It is questionable whether Rajinikanth could maintain his presence without the use of slow motion. Viewers are willing to watch Rajinikanth move in slow motion for a substantial portion of the film, even if he is not actively engaged in any action. This experience provides a sense of exhilaration."

RGV calls Amitabh, Rajinikanth demigods

He elaborated that individuals view stars such as Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth as demigods, which complicates their ability to portray ordinary characters. He remarked, "When a star takes on a commonplace role, it can lead to disappointment." He reminisced about watching a film featuring Amitabh Bachchan, in which his character experienced a stomachache. “I found that scene quite unappealing. I do not wish to see Amitabh Bachchan in discomfort. Thus, one tends to regard them as demigods. Demigods are unable to embody characters."

Ram Gopal Varma's upcoming project

On January 22, RGV revealed his upcoming film, entitled Syndicate. Utilizing X (formerly known as Twitter), he disclosed the film's premise, stating, "It revolves around the menacing organization that endangers the very fabric of India." He assured audiences that Syndicate will be a chilling experience—not due to supernatural factors, but by delving into the unsettling realities of human nature and the possible terrors that await.
