Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has vehemently criticized the detention of actor Allu Arjun related to the stampede that took place during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule in Hyderabad. He has urged all celebrities to come together and voice their opposition to this arrest.

On December 13, Arjun was apprehended by the Chikkadapally Police and was held overnight at Chanchalaguda Central Jail. He was subsequently released the following day.

The filmmaker utilized X, previously referred to as Twitter, to articulate his opinions and call upon the stars to unite in protest against his arrest.

“Every STAR should STRONGLY protest against @alluarjun‘s ARREST because for any celebrity, whether a FILM STAR or a POLITICAL STAR, is it a crime for them to be ENORMOUSLY POPULAR???” he stated.

The filmmaker referenced an incident that occurred during the production of the film Kshana Kshanam, which starred Sridevi, as a notable example.

Ram stated, “During the filming of my movie KSHANA KSHANAM, three individuals lost their lives in the massive crowd that gathered to see SRIDEVI. So, will the #TelanganaPolice now go to #HEAVEN to ARREST #sridevi?”

Kshana Kshanam, released in 1991, is a Telugu comedy heist film that was both written and directed by Ram Gopal Varma. The cast includes Venkatesh, Sridevi, Paresh Rawal, and Rami Reddy.

Ram's comments sparked a range of reactions on social media. One user expressed agreement, stating, “I concur with RGV on this matter,” while another remarked, “It’s a complicated issue. While celebrities do attract crowds, the responsibility for managing such large gatherings should be collective. I hope this incident prompts improved safety measures for everyone involved.”

Another user noted, “Always correct, #RGV Sir,” and yet another added, “It’s astonishing how fame can result in such disorder. Honoring talent should ensure safety for all.”

About the incident

On December 4, Allu Arjun, accompanied by his wife Sneha Reddy and his Pushpa 2 co-star Rashmika Mandanna, attended an event at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad. His appearance attracted a large crowd, resulting in a chaotic situation reminiscent of a stampede. This unfortunate incident led to the death of a woman and the hospitalization of her young son.

In response, the police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Allu Arjun and the theatre management, indicating that they had not been notified in advance about the actor's visit.

On December 13, Arjun was apprehended at his residence and spent the night at Chanchalaguda Central Jail. Following a 14-day remand ordered by the Nampally Court, the Telangana High Court subsequently granted him a four-week interim bail.

Recently, the actor addressed the reason for not visiting the stampede victim in the hospital through a message on Instagram.

“I am profoundly concerned about young Sri Tej, who is receiving ongoing medical treatment following the tragic incident,” he stated in his message, adding, “Due to the current legal proceedings, I have been advised against visiting him and his family at this moment. My thoughts and prayers are with them, and I remain dedicated to fulfilling my responsibilities regarding their medical and familial needs.”
