1 month ago | 5 Views
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has expressed his intention to 'cleanse' himself of all his 'cinematic transgressions' from the 'previous years' through his upcoming film. In a statement regarding the project, the unconventional director shared on X (formerly Twitter) that this film represents his most ambitious and frightening endeavor to date.
What is Syndicate about?
Varma indicates that the film will delve into the emergence of a menacing criminal organization that poses a significant threat to the very fabric of India. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), he elaborated on the conceptual development of "Syndicate," highlighting that while street gangs were once a major concern in India, the current peril stems from the establishment of a formidable syndicate that encompasses various factions, including political entities, law enforcement, affluent business magnates, and even military figures.
According to Varma's post, "Syndicate" will examine how the prevailing polarization within the country creates an environment conducive to the rise of such a perilous group. He clarified that the film does not focus on supernatural horror but rather investigates the alarming potential inherent in humanity.
The director underscored that the film will reveal the cyclical nature of crime and terror, demonstrating how criminal organizations transform into increasingly lethal entities over time. As Varma articulated, “Crime and terror never die; they keep coming back in more deadlier forms.”
Ram Gopal Varma on his ‘cinema sins’
At the conclusion of his post, the filmmaker expressed: “I made a commitment to ERADICATE all my CINEMATIC MISTAKES from the LAST FEW YEARS with this ONE SINGLE film titled SYNDICATE.”
The filmmaker's revelation regarding Syndicate aligns with the contemplative insights he has recently shared about his previous works, especially Satya. Varma disclosed that revisiting Satya after 27 years evoked profound emotions within him. He contemplated how the triumphs of films such as Satya and Rangeela diverted his creative path, leading to a loss of focus.
He acknowledged that he became overwhelmed by his own achievements, obscuring the fundamental values that originally inspired him to produce impactful films. "I wept in remorse for my betrayals of all those who placed their trust in me because of Satya. I became intoxicated, not by alcohol, but by my own success and hubris," Varma revealed.
More details about Syndicate
This introspection prompted him to pledge to produce a work as significant as Satya during the remainder of his life, culminating in the creation of Syndicate as a manifestation of that renewed dedication.
Varma assures that Syndicate will evoke fear not through supernatural phenomena, but by exploring the unsettling realities of human nature and the possible terrors that the future may hold. Regarding production specifics, Varma indicated that additional details about the cast and other elements will be disclosed shortly.
