It's been over a year since Rakshit Shetty, the Kannada actor and filmmaker, last appeared on screen. After his film Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side B came out, he mentioned he was getting ready to kick off his next directorial project, Richard Anthony. He’s been working on the prequel to Ulidavaru Kandanthe for some time now. When OTTplay caught up with him in late 2023, he shared that he anticipated about a year and a half to complete the film, aiming for a release in 2025.
So, 2024 is almost over, and Rakshit still hasn't managed to get Richard Anthony out to the public like he hoped. He's currently on a research trip, starting off in Dubai and then heading to the USA. Recently, he was in Canada, where he chatted with a bunch of Kannadigas and shared his story about transitioning from a software engineer to breaking into the film industry, including writing the first drafts of Kirik Party and Ulidavaru Kandanthe, among others.
Rakshit Shetty: Paramvah Studios will keep viewers entertained.
Rakshit shared his thoughts on the future of his production house during the chat. “We’ve gone through two main phases with our brand – first, it was all about the films I starred in and their box office success; then, we shifted focus to making our own productions that became popular. Now, we’re gearing up for the next stage. Our goal is to produce 10-12 films each year at Paramvah Studios. The challenge we’re facing is that the Kannada film industry isn’t thriving right now. To truly be recognized as an industry, we need at least 15 successful films annually. If we’re only seeing 2 hits out of the hundreds produced each year, I don’t think we can call it an industry yet,” he explained.
Rakshit pointed out that when there are just one or two films for people to get excited about, even if a great movie pops up in between, it might not get noticed. “It’s like someone who’s on a diet and is used to just one meal a day; they’ll just wait for that meal and not think about food at other times. In the same way, if audiences are only waiting for films from stars like Rishab or Yash, then the good movies from newcomers won’t get the spotlight they need and will end up flopping. What we really need is at least one solid film every month. We have to spark that desire in audiences to enjoy quality cinema regularly,” he explains, adding that Paramvah Studios’ goal is to keep viewers engaged.
