Nearly ten years ago, Rakshit Shetty revealed his intention to direct Kiccha Sudeep in a film titled Thugs of Malgudi. Although the project ultimately did not materialize, Rakshit consistently maintains that he does not dismiss the idea of pursuing it in the future. While in Canada to speak at a Kannada Sangha event, he was once again inquired about the potential for Thugs of Malgudi, to which he affirmed, "Yes."

Rakshit expresses that Thugs of Malgudi remains one of his preferred scripts. "If I were to enumerate the next five or six films I intend to direct, Thugs of Malgudi would invariably be included. However, I am uncertain when the circumstances will align for us to advance this project. At present, I am certain that I need to complete three projects consecutively: Richard Anthony, Punyakoti, and Midway to Moksha. Once Richard Anthony is underway, I am optimistic that I will be able to expedite the completion of these projects," he stated.

Rakshit Shetty – Kiccha Sudeep collaboration, Thugs of Malgudi, abandoned? 

In January 2023, Rakshit expressed his concerns on Twitter regarding four projects that have been troubling him for years. These projects include Richard Anthony, Punyakoti 1 and 2, and Midway to Moksha. His dedication to these films has led him to step away from Kirik Party 2, which will proceed with a different team.

Rakshit Shetty and Hemanth M Rao have established a timeline for their period film, Tenali.

In addition to these commitments, Rakshit is also engaged in a period detective film titled Tenali, in collaboration with Hemanth M Rao. He anticipates that he will be able to focus on this project after completing Punyakoti. Given that Rakshit has yet to commence work on Richard Anthony, it is likely to take an additional 5-6 years before he finishes Punyakoti, which he considers to be his dream project.
