Actor and television personality Rakhi Sawant has disclosed her experience of being summoned by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell concerning India’s Got Latent controversy. In a video shared by a paparazzo, she expressed her views on the matter, emphasizing that similar efforts should be directed towards incarcerating rapists.

Rakhi Sawant’s response to being summoned

In the video, Rakhi expresses her confusion regarding the summons she received, emphasizing that her participation was limited to an interview and did not involve any abusive language. She states, "The rationale behind sending me a summons is unclear, my friends. Please initiate a video call; I am prepared to address all your inquiries. As an artist, I was compensated to participate in the interview. I have fulfilled my obligation and did not insult anyone. Therefore, the issuance of a summons is unwarranted."

Rakhi further remarked on the pressing issue of unresolved rape cases in the country, highlighting the urgent need for justice for many women. She asserted, "It is imperative to prioritize the resolution of long-standing rape cases. I am in a dire financial situation, lacking even a single rupee to offer. Residing in Dubai, I currently have no employment. There is little point in contacting me. Every day, women suffer from sexual violence; it is crucial to show compassion for them and their families. The perpetrators must be held accountable first. I earnestly appeal to everyone. We have committed no crime; we are law-abiding individuals."

What happened

Officials have reported that Maharashtra Cyber is investigating the case related to the YouTube program India’s Got Latent and has summoned Rakhi for a statement next Friday. An official indicated that she is required to appear before Maharashtra Cyber officials on February 27 to provide her account. Rakhi was featured as a guest in one of the episodes where Ranveer Allahbadia made controversial comments regarding parents and sex, which sparked widespread outrage across the nation.

Maharashtra Cyber has already called upon over 50 individuals, including comedians, content creators, and social media influencers, who were involved in Samay Raina’s YouTube show. A case has been filed against Ranveer and others for his purportedly inappropriate remarks during the episode. The official noted that both Ranveer and Ashish Chanchalani are scheduled to provide their statements on February 24 (Monday).

On Tuesday, the Gauhati High Court granted interim bail to Ashish while considering his anticipatory bail petition, instructing him to meet with the investigating officer within 10 days. Additionally, on February 18, the Supreme Court provided interim protection from arrest to Ranveer, labelling his comments as “vulgar” and criticizing him for possessing a “dirty mind” that brings shame to society.
