In a recent interview, Rakesh disclosed that he received considerable advice against casting Rekha in his film Khoon Bhari Maang.

Rakesh Roshan reveals industry’s attempt to undermine Rekha

In an interview with ANI, Rakesh spoke highly of his friend and co-star, Rekha, noting that she possesses a rare quality found in very few actresses. He emphasized that with every film, she brings a fresh character to life. They appeared together in films such as Khoobsurat, Aakraman, and Aurat. Despite this, people advised Rakesh against approaching her for the role in Khoon Bhari Maang, which involves a maternal figure. Their reasoning was based on her reputation for being notoriously late and often leaving unexpectedly when working on a project.

Rakesh decided to confront her with the truth about the rumours he had heard. Whenever he had the chance to collaborate with Rekha, he never once witnessed the disparaging remarks made about her.

Confronting Rekha about rumours

Rakesh conveyed to her, upon his arrival as the director, that this was merely his second film and that it dealt with a challenging theme. The film centers on women's experiences and represents an experimental endeavor for him. The narrative culminates in the wife committing murder against her husband.

He addressed her directly, inquiring, "You won’t cause me any difficulties, will you?" Rekha responded with disbelief, "What are you talking about? Have I ever behaved that way? I only create issues for those who fail to compensate me or do not honor their commitments."

Rekha's involvement in Koi... Mil Gaya

After a considerable period, Rakesh approached Rekha to discuss her involvement in his film Koi... Mil Gaya. He recounted the storyline to her and then asked, "What do you think?" complimenting her intelligence. In response, she quickly pointed out, "You are not sharing this story with me for my input; you are doing so because you wish for me to portray the mother." He simply replied, "yes."
