There’s already plenty of buzz around Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s upcoming movie titled Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. The film’s trailer, which was released some time ago, was welcomed with open arms by fans and sparked discussions for a while. However, the last few days haven’t been particularly positive for the movie following the release of the song Mere Mehboob. Triptii’s dance number faced criticism for using her as a glamour quotient and giving her uncomfortable dance moves. Now, dark clouds continue to loom over the film, as it has been accused of plagiarism by producer Sanjay Tiwari. Raaj Shaandilyaa, the writer and director of the movie, has been accused of lifting the script, and a legal notice has already been sent.
Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Accused of Plagiarism
Producer Sanjay Tiwari has accused Raaj Shaandilyaa of plagiarism, alleging that the plotline for Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video was lifted from a script originally written by a screenwriter named Gulbanu Khan, which was registered with the Screen Writers Association in 2015. Tiwari has said that they’ve sent a legal notice to the filmmaker and are awaiting a response. If there is no reply, they intend to take necessary legal action. Read on to learn more.
According to online media, Sanjay Tiwari accused Raaj Shaandilyaa of taking the central idea from the script written by Gulbanu Khan, titled Sex Hai To Life Hai…?, for his film Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. He stated, “The central idea is, a husband and wife shoot their own private video for themselves, for a healthier relationship, and the CD/DVD goes missing. After watching the promo, we realized that Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video revolves around the same idea. So, we sent a legal notice to all the makers and are waiting for their proper response. If we do not receive a reply within the next 2-3 days, we will take appropriate action.”
The fact that the script was already registered under Gulbanu Khan’s name in 2015 serves as evidence in their favor. According to the same report, Gulbanu Khan expressed disbelief that Raaj Shaandilyaa would do this. “It’s shocking that someone could misappropriate our ideas. The central idea of any film is very important. It’s like a foundation stone, without which the story and then the film cannot even be thought of. Bala and Ujda Chaman is another example where the central idea is the same,” Khan remarked.
In the same interview, producer Sanjay Tiwari mentioned that he had plans to begin production on Sex Hai To Life Hai in 2017-2018 and was actively working on the script. However, due to delays and the pandemic, the project was put on hold. Meanwhile, Raaj Shaandilyaa has yet to comment on the controversy.
Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is set to release in theaters on October 11, 2024.
