Comedian-actor Rajiv Thakur is currently basking in the glory of his recent project, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. The Great Indian Kapil Show’s Rajiv Thakur shared how Kapil Sharma helped him take up the Anubhav Sinha series. Essaying the role of one of the hijackers in the Netflix miniseries, Rajiv recently opened up about his dilemma for the same and how Kapil Sharma encouraged him to take the opportunity in IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack.

Rajiv Thakur on why he almost rejected IC 814

Rajiv, who plays a hijacker in the web series, recently opened up in an interview about nearly missing out on the role and how his coworker and popular comedy star Kapil Sharma helped him make a vital decision. He even shared that Kapil postponed his America tour for Rajiv as the dates were clashing.

Explaining further, he stated that Kapil’s America tour and Anubhav Sinha’s series were clashing, and this made the decision quite complicated, and Rajiv almost turned down the offer. Thanks to Kapil, we got to experience Rajiv’s intense performance in the series.

“The series team asked for my dates in June last year, which were already with Kapil for our America tour. This is why I decided to say no. But when Kapil got to know about it, he encouraged me to take up IC 814. He told me ‘Tu series kar, hum show push kar denge (you do the series, we will push the show)’. And that’s how our show was postponed to July. I had already committed to him, so I would have rejected the show, but he pushed me, and I am thankful for that”, Rajiv told IndiaToday.in.

Rajiv on Kapil Sharma’s support

Rajiv also proudly called Kapil his ‘true friend’ for helping him out take up a big opportunity and extending his support on the same. He also expressed gratitude to the comedy series’ team, including Archana Puran Singh, who supported him by lauding their craft and the series. The comedian-actor also recalled how Kapil Sharma messaged Anubhav Sharma and him for the incredible show and how it ultimately led to his happiness.

“I remember Kapil also watched the show late at night after a shoot and immediately messaged Anubhav sir. He called me the first thing the next morning and he sounded so happy and proud. I think this makes me so much happier,” he added.

For the unversed, Rajiv plays the role of terrorist Ibrahim Akhtar alias "Chief,” in IC814. The web series also featured Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza, and Manoj Pahwa in prominent roles. It is based on the 1999 plane hijack that shook the nation and became one of the longest hijacks. A Kathmandu-to-Delhi flight was hijacked by five terrorists with over 180 passengers on board.

The miniseries has been garnering attention for its stellar performances and narrative. Despite being engulfed in several controversies for the alleged distortion of facts, the makers have earned wide recognition for the series due to its well-crafted plot.
