In the Tamil film industry, the camaraderie between superstar Rajinikanth and producer-politician RM Veerappan is widely recognized. Many of Rajinikanth's successful films were produced by RM Veerappan under the banner of Sathya Movies. In a recent documentary titled RMV: The Kingmaker, which honors RM Veerappan, Rajinikanth shared insights regarding the events that transpired during the 100th-day celebration of Baasha, a film produced by Sathya Movies, and explained his reasons for opposing the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalithaa.

During the Baasha celebration in Chennai in 1995, RM Veerappan, who was serving as an AIADMK minister in the Tamil Nadu government, shared the stage with Rajinikanth. In his speech, the actor addressed issues such as 'Varigala aatchi' (hereditary politics), the prevalence of 'bomb culture' in the state, and the potential for Tamil Nadu to become a 'graveyard.' Consequently, his remarks led to RM Veerappan being removed from the government by Jayalalithaa, with whom he had a historically strained relationship.

Rajinikanth expressed his deep distress regarding the situation involving Veerappan in a recently released video, revealing that he reached out the following day to convey his sorrow. However, RMV reportedly advised him not to dwell too much on the matter. When the Superstar proposed contacting Jayalalithaa, RMV allegedly responded, “Don’t compromise your self-respect. I have no desire for any position; I am not attached to it.” According to the Superstar, RMV dismissed the incident and continued with his life. The Padaiyappa star appeared visibly emotional in the video as he explained that this event significantly influenced his political opposition to Jayalalithaa and prompted him to speak out against her in the future. He also commended RM Veerappan for his renowned 'kingmaker' abilities, as well as his wisdom and humility.
