Actor Rajendra Prasad recently made light of Australian cricketer David Warner during the pre-release event of the film Robinhood. However, his remarks regarding Warner's enthusiasm for the movie Pushpa were met with criticism, with several individuals accusing him of disrespecting the cricketer. In response to the backlash, Rajendra Prasad has issued an apology, clarifying the context of his comments.
Rajendra Prasad apologises after backlash
The seasoned actor released a video to the media, expressing regret and elaborating on his relationship with David. He stated, “During the Robinhood pre-release event, I inadvertently made a comment about David Warner. Those who know me understand that it was not my intention to offend. Prior to the event, we were all enjoying each other's company. I mentioned to Nithiin and David that they are like my children.”
He further explained that he and David had been joking with each other about their respective professions before the event. "When he embraced me, I challenged him to demonstrate his acting skills, and he in turn asked me to showcase my cricket abilities. I have great admiration for David Warner and his cricketing talent, and he appreciates our films and performances. If my comments have caused any distress, I sincerely apologize and assure you that it will not happen again,” he remarked.
What did Rajendra Prasad say to David Warner
Earlier this week, at the Robinhood pre-release event in Hyderabad, Rajendra Prasad playfully teased David Warner. He mimicked the cricketer performing the Srivalli dance step from Pushpa and joked about Warner's tendency to do that instead of focusing on cricket. Additionally, he referred to him in a colloquial manner as ‘donga m***a koduku’ (which loosely translates to son of a gun), a comment that did not sit well with many attendees. Throughout the actor's remarks, David maintained a smile while the comments were delivered in Telugu.
Numerous individuals expressed their displeasure, believing that David had been 'insulted.' One user on X (formerly Twitter) commented, “Worst behaviour. Oka international player respect tho osthey idha meru echeyi respect (Is this how you respect an international player?)” Another user remarked, “To disrespect and insult someone who does not understand your language and who appreciates Telugu films is a disgrace to TFI. Such behaviour is absurd!” A fan also questioned, “Enduku ayya pilichi mari avamanistharu?? (Why call him just to insult?)”
