Actor Radhika Apte is preparing to step into the role of a director. Known for her performances in numerous critically acclaimed films over the past few years, including Padman, Andhadhun, and Monica O My Darling, she is set to make her directorial debut with an action fantasy film entitled Kotya.

The announcement was made public as part of the CinéV-CHD Market lineup, coinciding with the second edition of India’s Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF), according to Variety. This lineup showcases 22 varied projects from both seasoned and up-and-coming filmmakers.

According to the report, Radhika's film is a Hindi/Marathi action-fantasy that tells the story of a young migrant sugarcane cutter who acquires superpowers following a coerced medical procedure and utilizes them to liberate her family from financial burdens. The feature will be produced by filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane.

The lineup

Several other projects revealed in the lineup feature upcoming titles linked to notable figures such as Hansal Mehta, Nandita Das, Kani Kusruti from All We Imagine As Light, Shonali Bose, the director of The Sky is Pink, and Prateek Vats, the creator of Eeb Alley Ooo!

In her recent endeavours, Radhika was last seen in Sister Midnight, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and subsequently received a BAFTA nomination for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer. Additionally, Radhika earned a nomination for a BIFA award for her performance. The film portrays Radhika as a woman forced into an unhappy arranged marriage.

In December of the previous year, Radhika announced the arrival of her child with her husband, Benedict Taylor. She shared a photograph on Instagram featuring herself breastfeeding the newborn, which also marked her return to work after maternity leave.
