Ram Gopal Varma shares bizarre encounter with police

In a recent interview with Game Changers, he reflected on a period when his tweets generated significant controversy. He recounted that he posted something impulsively and subsequently received a call from director Mahesh Bhatt, who informed him of the uproar surrounding his tweets. Ram Gopal admitted that he had initially forgotten about the posts that ignited the debate and was bewildered by the ensuing reaction.

He stated, “About 4-5 years ago, I tweeted a few things without much thought, expressing my feelings at the moment. A few hours later, Mahesh Bhatt, sir, called me and said, ‘Ramu, there is a commotion regarding your tweets, but remember that blasphemy is not a legal offense.’ I was completely unaware of what he was referring to, as I had already forgotten my actions.”

Ram Gopal mentioned that he faced 6-7 legal cases related to the social media posts. However, the situation took an unexpected turn.

The director of Satya explained, “We were attempting to consolidate all the cases, but by the time the police arrived at my office, the court had already overturned the law under which I was charged that very day. The police were at a loss for what to do, so they ended up sitting with me, having a drink, and then departed. Much of what I tweet stems from ignorance, but occasionally I do it to provoke or annoy someone.”
