Looking back, it just seems like yesterday when the Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol, Juhi Chawla starrer Darr had got released. To be more precise, the film ‘Darr’, which was released on 24 December 1993, went onto become one of the biggest blockbusters of Bollywood at that time. And since it’s the 24thDecember today, it only means that the film has now clocked thirty wholesome years in Bollywood. Even though all the details about the film is by now an open book, there are many who do not know that there is a certain ‘Hrithik Roshan’ connection in the film!

The ‘Hrithik Roshan’ connection
No! Before anyone jumps the gun, it was not like Hrithik Roshan was offered to play any part in the film. As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, it mentioned that, after Uday Chopra and Hrithik Roshan came across the 1989 Hollywood thriller Dead Calm, they had recommended the same to Aditya Chopra, who, then, conceptualized that into ‘Darr’, as stated by Uday Chopra in an old video.

The same video also has Uday Chopra saying that the title ‘Darr’ was the brainchild of Hrithik Roshan for an amateur film that he had shot. When Adity got to know that, he told Hrithik Roshan that since it suited the film well, he would like to go ahead with the film’s title as ‘Darr’. And, that’s how ‘Darr’ was born! The video also stated that the late filmmaker Yash Chopra was actually unaware of this trivia of his own film!

Nostalgia about ‘Darr’

Looking back, when the film ‘Darr’ was released, many (audiences as well as the filmmakers) were reluctant to see Shah Rukh Khan in a negative role and that too, when he was pitted against Juhi Chawla, with whom he had delivered one of the evergreen musical hits a year before in the form of ‘Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman’. But, Shah Rukh Khan, with his powerful performances not just silenced everyone (almost), but also went ahead and signed yet another film ‘Anjaam’, in which he had a negative role.

The K-K-Kiran effect!

For those who have seen the film ‘Darr’ will surely agree with the kind of impact that Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘K-K-Kiran’ had on the audiences for a long time. The film ‘Darr’, which starred Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol and Juhi Chawla in the leading roles was directed by the late Yash Chopra. The film did boast of some of the melodious tracks which are still evergreen. These tracks include, ‘Tu Mere saamne’, ‘Darwaaza bandha kar lo’, ‘Holi’ and others.
