Bollywood is witnessing the development of a new love story, yet it remains entirely staged. Speculation about a romantic comedy starring R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh surfaced just last month. The news that the project has progressed to the set has recently ignited excitement. What exactly is the plot of the actors' first joint project? 

A May-December romance with a modern twist

As per Mid Day, the story goes like this: Madhavan's character uses a dating app to meet a younger woman, and their romance gives off a May-December vibe. Rumour has it that the working title is Tharki. The unique love story gets a whimsical spin from director Vivek Soni, who was previously responsible for the Sanya Malhotra and Abhimanyu Dassani vehicle Meenakshi Sundareshwar (2021).

Madhavan portrays a virgin in his mid-forties, according to an insider. The plot revolves around his romantic encounter with Fatima, a lady in her early 30s whom he meets on a dating app. It's a modern spin on the classic love story.

Supporting cast and filming locations

Karan Wahi makes a cameo appearance, and the cast also features Namit Das, who portrays the protagonist's close friend. The unit will travel to Kolkata in December after filming in Mumbai in early November. The OTT film will be available on Netflix, thanks to Karan Johar's Dharmatic Entertainment.

Madhavan's return to romantic comedy

For Madhavan, Tharki signifies a comeback to romantic comedies following nearly ten years since Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015). Over the years, Madhavan's romantic comedies have garnered a large following among Hindi audiences, including the Tanu Weds Manu series and Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein [2001]. Following his powerful performances in Shaitaan and Rocketry: The Nambi Effect [2022], Tharki will serve as the ideal setup for them. The source continues, revealing that the actor-filmmaker will feature in De De Pyaar De 2, another romantic comedy, but not as the main lead.

Meanwhile, Metro... In Dino by Anurag Basu is also in the pipeline for Fatima.
