R Madhavan Reflects on Wealth: "My Net Worth Could Have Been Higher"

1 month ago | 5 Views

R Madhavan's latest movie, Hisaab Barabar, features him as a ticket checker for the railway who's all about the money. His character is so obsessed with keeping track of accounts that it borders on quirky. Madhavan himself admits he’s not at all like that. "I wish I was. My net worth would have been way higher," he shared in a candid interview with Hindustan Times. In the conversation, he dives into his views on money, the role he plays, and how he’s perceived on screen.

About his financial status and how he handles money

Madhavan mentions that while he might not have a billion-dollar fortune, he’s totally fine with that. "I invest in experiences. I don’t really care about the price of a new adventure; I just want to dive in. I've wasted a lot of money on unnecessary things. But for an actor, that’s part of the game. Those experiences are what helped shape me into the actor I am today," he shares.

He’s leveraging his parents' sense of justice for Hisaab Barabar

The actor believes that the qualities of righteousness and honesty are traits he links to his parents' generation. "Our parents draw strength from being straightforward and honest. If you strip that away, their ego crumbles because they lose their sense of pride. It's fundamental to who they are," he explains. Madhavan adds that he took inspiration from this idea to shape his character's emotions: "When that foundation is gone, they either fall apart or turn vengeful to get back at you. That's exactly what my character does."

Madhavan shares that he’s actually a fun-loving guy, but somehow he’s ended up with a reputation for being grumpy, both in front of the camera and behind it. He chuckles, saying, "It’s kind of odd because those who know me get my vibe. Yet, when I’m on set, I often hear that I come off as intimidating. I really don’t get it. I can’t recall ever shouting or acting all high and mighty on set, but I guess I give off that vibe."

Directed by Ashwini Dhir, Hisaab Barabar tells the story of an everyday guy who takes on a massive scam in a private bank. Alongside Madhavan, the film features Neil Nitin Mukesh, Kirti Kulhari, and Rashami Desai in key roles. It premiered on Zee5 on January 24.
