R Madhavan Pauses Acting for Four Years to Explore India: 'I Aimed to Understand the Cost of Potatoes and Pulses'

Actor R Madhavan discussed his four-year hiatus from acting during which he traveled across various regions of India. In an interview with India TV, Madhavan expressed his desire to understand the cost of essential commodities like potatoes and pulses to gain insight into the country's situation. He also mentioned that he grew a beard and sought to comprehend the direction in which the nation was heading.

When Madhavan took a break from acting

Madhavan reminisced about a period when he felt overwhelmed by his relentless work schedule. He stated, "I have consistently sought to portray a variety of characters. Nevertheless, I feel fortunate to have achieved this relatively effortlessly. However, there was a moment when the continuous demands of work led to my frustration. My wife inquired about my activities during that time. Consequently, I decided to take a break from acting and explored the streets of Kerala."

How Madhavan tried to understand people's psychology

The actor spoke about what he did to understand people. "I also toured other parts of India and tried to understand the mentality and psychology of all kinds of people. This also benefited me a lot. I wanted to know the price of potatoes and pulses to know what was happening. I grew a beard and started trying to know where the country was going. Because I got a chance to understand the psychology of people as well," he added.

About Madhavan's career

Madhavan commenced his acting journey with television series including Banegi Apni Baat, Sea Hawks, Ghar Jamai, and Saaya. In 2000, he took on the leading role in Mani Ratnam's film Alai Payuthey. Following that, he appeared in the movies Minnale, Dumm Dumm Dumm, and Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, all of which were released in 2001. His most recent appearance was in Hisaab Barabar in 2024.

About Madhavan's upcoming films

Audiences can look forward to Madhavan's appearance in Kesari 2, where he stars alongside Akshay Kumar and Ananya Panday. In this film, Madhavan portrays the character Neville Mckinley. Kesari Chapter 2 will delve into the previously untold narrative of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, with its release scheduled for April 18.

Additionally, Madhavan is set to feature in the Tamil film Test, which also stars Nayanthara and Siddharth. This project, directed by S Sashikanth, is slated for an OTT release on April 4.
