Rumours have been circulating regarding the third instalment of Aanand L Rai's Tanu Weds Manu, with reports suggesting that actor R Madhavan was contacted to participate in the film. Nevertheless, in a recent interview, Madhavan clarified the situation.

What did R Madhavan say

In a recent interview with SCREEN, Madhavan was inquired about the potential for a sequel and whether Aanand L Rai had reached out to him regarding a third instalment. He was also asked if Kangana Ranaut would reprise her role in a triple capacity alongside him in this upcoming film.

Madhavan responded, “While I would love to discuss it, I genuinely have no information. It has only been mentioned on Instagram. The media and the public are posing these questions to me. Neither Anand nor anyone else has communicated with me about the third part.”

Additionally, the actor hinted at the possibility of his character being replaced in Tanu Weds Manu 3. He remarked, “I am completely in the dark and unaware of the script. It’s possible that I may not be included. Perhaps they have found a replacement for me. I truly have no idea.”

About the film franchise

R Madhavan and Kangana Ranaut appeared together in the 2011 film Tanu Weds Manu, as well as its sequel, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, released in 2015. The latter film served as a follow-up to the immensely popular Tanu Weds Manu, a romantic comedy featuring the unlikely pairing of Kangana and R Madhavan. The principal cast was effectively complemented by supporting actors such as Swara Bhasker, Deepak Dobriyal, and Jimmy Sheirgill, among others. The film is particularly recognized for showcasing the culture and ambience of Uttar Pradesh.

Previously, Madhavan expressed that he felt he was ‘done’ with the franchise, remarking that it was ‘water under the bridge’. He stated, “I think that’s water under the bridge. There is no point in beating a dead horse… You know, it’s so difficult to come up with original stuff, and then there are expectations of a film. See, if it’s a sequel to Avengers or a superhero series, it’s easier because you have a template. But with Tanu Weds Manu, it’s impossible. And I think I am done with it. I don’t want to go back to being Manu now,” Madhavan conveyed during an interview with YouTuber Jaby Koey.
