Pushpa 2's Future Uncertain as PVR-INOX Considers Removal Amid Upcoming Baby John Release

Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule remains a dominant force at the box office. In its third week of release, the film continues to perform exceptionally well, especially in northern regions, where the Hindi dubbed version is setting new records. In light of this success, the film's distributors in North India, AA Films, have requested that the number of screenings for Pushpa 2 not be decreased, despite the upcoming release of Varun Dhawan's Baby John next week. This request, accompanied by a warning of potential withdrawal of the film, has raised concerns regarding its future box office performance.
Pushpa 2 The Rule vs Baby John at the box office
Earlier this week, Bollywood Hungama reported that Anil Thadani of AA Films requested that exhibitors in North India provide written confirmation that they would not reduce the screening of Pushpa 2 from Wednesday, December 25, to accommodate Baby John. According to a source, "Anil Thadani instructed all exhibitors to submit a written agreement to this condition. If they fail to comply, the release order (RO) for Pushpa 2 – The Rule for the weekend will not be issued. Without the RO, theatres will be unable to screen Pushpa 2 – The Rule during this weekend."
This situation has led to speculation that PVR-INOX may remove Pushpa 2 from its northern theatres starting Wednesday, as the release order may not be granted.
As uncertainty looms over the future of Pushpa 2 in North India, representatives from both parties convened again on Friday night for a meeting that lasted until midnight. Following this discussion, it was agreed to temporarily suspend the issue and seek a resolution at a later date. PVR-INOX has since reopened advance bookings for Pushpa 2, although these bookings are only available until December 22. It remains uncertain whether the film will continue to be shown in the theatre chain after that date, especially following the release of Baby John on December 25.
About Pushpa 2 and Baby John
Pushpa 2: The Rule, helmed by Sukumar, features Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil in prominent roles. Within just 16 days of its release, the Hindi version has achieved the status of the highest-grossing Hindi film ever, surpassing Stree 2 and Jawan. On Friday alone, the Hindi dub generated ₹11 crore, which constitutes nearly 80% of the film's total revenue. This underscores the significance of the Hindi market for the film, as well as its importance for exhibitors in the northern regions.
Conversely, Baby John is directed by Kalees and produced by Atlee. This film, which is an adaptation of Theri, stars Varun Dhawan, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Keerthy Suresh. Scheduled for release on December 25, coinciding with Christmas, this action drama is anticipated to perform exceptionally well during the festive season due to its mass appeal.
