"Pushpa 2" Effect: Telangana Government Enforces Ban on Special Screenings and Ticket Price Hikes!

1 day ago | 5 Views

Pushpa 2 has emerged as a substantial success at the box office, surpassing Rs 1500 crore in revenue. Nevertheless, the film has been marred by off-screen controversies that have adversely affected Allu Arjun. The actor is currently experiencing considerable criticism from both the government and the public in light of the stampede incident at the Sandhya Theater.

Pushpa 2 effect: Telangana exhibitors take a bold decision

The Telangana government has taken the decision to prohibit benefit shows throughout the state, thereby ensuring that no fan screenings occur prior to the official release dates of films. This measure is intended to avert any additional incidents.

Furthermore, the Exhibitors' Union has declared that there will be no increase in ticket prices for forthcoming major films. Vijender Reddy, the Chairman of the Exhibitors' Union, noted that the variability in ticket prices has led to confusion among audiences and has negatively impacted theatre attendance in Hyderabad.

Differentiating ticket prices for various films creates challenges for audiences. In the initial days following a film's release, numerous middle-class individuals, students, and fans with limited financial means frequent theatres. Imposing elevated prices during this timeframe places an undue burden on them and may deter their attendance, Reddy remarked.

In a significant development, Dil Raju has recently been appointed as the President of the Telangana Film Council. Although he has produced large-scale films that could benefit from increased ticket prices, he has been instrumental in advocating for the decision to maintain current pricing levels. This resolution has garnered commendation from T. S. Ram Prasad, Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Exhibitors' Sector.

No more special show and ticket hikes in Telangana

Ram Prasad observed that certain producers tend to inflate their production expenses in order to rationalize increases in ticket prices, which ultimately leads to a decline in audience attendance and adversely impacts box office revenues.

The government's response, prompted by the tragic fatalities at the Sandhya Theater stampede and the serious condition of a young boy, underscores their dedication to ensuring audience safety. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed strong disapproval of Allu Arjun for allegedly disregarding police directives to vacate the theatre amid the turmoil, accusing him of exhibiting defiance.

Notwithstanding the surrounding controversy, Pushpa 2 continues to engage audiences and has considerably enhanced Allu Arjun’s fame and popularity. It remains to be seen how industry producers and prominent stars will react to the recent decision to refrain from increasing ticket prices in the near future.
