Pushpa 2 has been making headlines due to its remarkable box office success over the last eight days. However, this achievement has been overshadowed by a troubling controversy. Superstar Allu Arjun has been arrested and is currently in 14-day custody related to a stampede incident at a theatre in Hyderabad, which tragically resulted in a fatality. Although Allu Arjun has extended compensation and support to the bereaved family, this situation has cast a shadow over the film's accomplishments. In response, actor Varun Dhawan has stepped forward to defend Allu Arjun, urging the public not to assign sole responsibility to him.
Varun Dhawan Defends Allu Arjun
A tragic event unfolded during a screening of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad, resulting in the death of 35-year-old Revathi due to a stampede. The chaos erupted when Allu Arjun made an appearance at the theatre to interact with his fans. In the aftermath of this incident, the actor committed to providing financial aid of ₹25 lakh to the family of the deceased and offered his personal support. Additionally, he vowed to cover the medical costs for a boy who was critically injured. Despite these gestures, the police have taken Allu Arjun into custody for a period of 14 days.
Varun Dhawan, who is currently engaged in the promotion of his film Baby John, voiced his support for Allu Arjun at a recent press conference. In his remarks regarding the incident and the subsequent arrest of the actor, Varun emphasized that the blame for such unfortunate occurrences should not rest on a single individual.
At the event, as reported by Mid-Day, Varun candidly said, "Har cheez ek actor apne par nahi le sakta hai. We can tell people around us. Jo had hua hai vo bohot dardnak hai, and I send my condolences, but at the same time blame mein sirf ek insaan par nahi dal sakta."
Allu Arjun Responds to the Incident
At a recent success meeting for Pushpa 2, Allu Arjun expressed his deep sorrow regarding the stampede incident. He reflected on the occurrence, stating, "The event that transpired at the Sandhya Theatre is truly regrettable... I am in shock. It required me several hours to come to terms with it and formulate a response. Psychologically, I found it difficult to process—it took me approximately 10 hours. We were all left in disbelief upon hearing the news. Sukumar sir was also profoundly affected. I intend to personally visit the family later. We will always be present and strive to offer our support."
