Last year September, OTTplay reported that Sharmila Tagore will make a comeback in Bengali film after more than a decade. Directed by Suman Ghosh, Purataen was shot last year and features Rituparna Sengupta and Indraneil Sengupta. Now the film was screened at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. Rituparna’s Bhavna Aaj O Kal will produce the film. 

Puratawn is an emotional mother-daughter story around Mrs Sen (Sharmila Tagore), her daughter (Rituparna Sengupta), and her son-in-law played by Indranil Sengupta. Sharmila Tagore will be back in Bengali film after 14 years. She was last seen in Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Antaheen. Rituparna and Indraneil have recently worked together on Indrasis Acharya’s film.  

Sharmila Tagore and Rituparna Sengupta met at the special screening of the film Puratawn in Mumbai. The film, directed by Suman Ghosh, was screened on Monday, for the first time in India. Sharmila came to Mumbai for one day to watch the film. She wore a white chiffon saree. She came with her daughters Saba Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan. Kunal Kemmu and Saif Ali Khan were also there.  

Rituparna played Sharmila’s daughter in the film. She looked gorgeous in a red Benarasi saree, a halter blouse, and gold jewellery. She came with her husband Sanjay. Rituparna said, “Incidentally I am a producer, but in my heart, I am an actress.”
