In the year 2000, Priyanka Chopra was awarded the title of Miss India and subsequently became Miss World. Her mother, Madhu Chopra, has discussed the significant efforts made since that time to establish a reputation in the entertainment industry. In a recent interview with Lehren TV, Madhu revealed that they faced challenges upon returning to their hometown of Bareilly after Priyanka's Miss World victory.

What Madhu said

During the interview, Madhu recounted the events that transpired at that time. She stated, “The reception we received in Bareilly was far from welcoming. The local authorities claimed this was a case of female exploitation and that they would not accept it. Their stance was that the winner should be welcomed in her own city.”

‘We were very upset’

Madhu further elaborated, “The plan was to return to Bareilly, and we had even secured permission from the Chief Minister’s office. However, they later cited a law and order issue as a reason for not allowing her to be welcomed. We were quite disheartened by this.”

In September of last year, Priyanka returned to the same location in London where she was crowned Miss World to attend a concert by her husband, Nick Jonas. She made her acting debut in the Tamil film Thamizhan (2002), followed by her first Bollywood film, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003).

Priyanka is anticipated to appear in SS Rajamouli's upcoming project alongside Mahesh Babu. She hinted at the start of a ‘new chapter’ last month during her visit to Hyderabad, with an official announcement regarding the project expected soon. Additionally, she will be featured in the American action-comedy Heads of State, sharing the screen with Idris Elba and John Cena.
