Despite the mixed reviews, Citadel was granted a renewal for Season 2, and filming was completed last year. However, in a surprising turn of events, the studio has now postponed the release of the show and has indefinitely ceased the development of new spinoffs and prequels.

Citadel Season 2 Pushed to 2026

Citadel, developed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, centers on two spies from a disbanded intelligence agency who must adapt to life without the oversight of their previous organization. The initial vision was to broaden the franchise on a global scale, with each nation featuring its own localized adaptation, including titles like Citadel: Diana (Italy) and Citadel: Honey Bunny (India), all of which would eventually link back to the primary English-language series.

The studio has made the decision to postpone the release of Citadel Season 2 from its initial debut in 2025 to 2026, a move that raises some concerns.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, executives from Amazon and MGM expressed dissatisfaction with the current progress of Citadel Season 2. This discontent prompted the delay of the show's anticipated fall 2025 release to spring 2026. Furthermore, all planned spin-offs and prequels have been placed on indefinite hold until the second season is launched. Currently, the company has not announced a new official release date for the series.
