Actor and producer Priyanka Chopra is at the forefront of a worldwide campaign aimed at raising awareness about gender-based violence, known as #StandWithHer. According to a report from Variety, Mindy Kaling and Dev Patel are also getting involved in this important initiative.
Priyanka Chopra discussing the campaign
The campaign draws inspiration from Nisha Pahuja’s Oscar-nominated documentary, To Kill a Tiger, and is set to kick off in New York, USA, this Wednesday. Priyanka expressed her support, stating, “Gender-based violence is a worldwide issue that often lurks in the shadows. I’m proud to back the #StandWithHer campaign, which is fueled by Nisha’s impactful documentary, To Kill a Tiger, aimed at fostering real change.”
To Kill a Tiger is available for streaming on Netflix and follows the story of Ranjit, a farmer from Jharkhand, India, who seeks justice after three men assault his 13-year-old daughter. Despite facing threats to his life, social exclusion, and numerous challenges, the family fought hard to achieve a significant legal victory. The documentary will be shown in various US cities, including New York, Chicago, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, and Washington DC.
The film made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022 and was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 96th Academy Awards, although it ultimately lost to 20 Days in Mariupol. Dev and Mindy joined as executive producers in 2023, with Priyanka coming on board in 2024.
Latest efforts
Priyanka was last spotted in the 2023 American movie Love Again. She also filmed Heads of State alongside Idris Elba and John Cena, and The Bluff, where she portrays a 19th-century pirate with Karl Urban. Both of these films are still awaiting their release.
Though it hasn't been officially confirmed, Priyanka is expected to make her comeback in Indian cinema with SS Rajamouli’s upcoming project, SSMB 29. The film features Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran in leading roles, and filming is currently happening in Odisha.
