G. Suresh Kumar has seemingly ignited controversy with his assertions regarding the current state of Malayalam cinema, claiming it is in crisis and that the figures associated with the Rs 100 crore clubs are fabricated. Following his remarks, Vinayakan expressed his disapproval, prompting Antony Perumbavoor to challenge Suresh Kumar's statements concerning the box office performance of Malayalam films. Additionally, both Prithviraj Sukumaran and Unni Mukundan have expressed their support for Perumbavoor.

Antony Perumbavoor on Suresh Kumar’s comments

In a detailed Facebook post, Antony Perumbavoor scrutinized Suresh Kumar's assertions, particularly his comments about "L2 Empuraan," a film produced by Aashirvad Cinemas. This project, featuring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is a significant undertaking for Aashirvad Cinemas. Perumbavoor questioned the basis of Suresh Kumar's remarks, suggesting that he lacks comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter. The film is scheduled for release on March 27, 2025.

For context, Suresh Kumar previously claimed to have discussed the budget for "Empuraan" with Antony Perumbavoor, stating that it would amount to Rs 141 crore, excluding the salaries of Prithviraj and Mohanlal. He remarked to a Malayalam media outlet that merely labeling the film as "Pan India" is insufficient; it must perform well in theaters.

Antony emphasized that the entire cast and crew of "Empuraan" have dedicated two years of hard work to the project, expressing disappointment that such negative comments are being directed at the film rather than fostering support for their efforts.

Notably, Prithviraj Sukumaran, the director of "Empuraan," shared Perumbavoor's Facebook post, commenting, “Ellam oke alle anna,” which conveys a sense of inquiry about the situation. Unni Mukundan, who has gained recognition as an action superstar with "Marco," also endorsed the post with a handshake emoji, signaling his support.

Antony Perumbavoor on Suresh Kumar's claims about Rs 100-crore clubs

Suresh Kumar, an official with the Kerala Film Producers' Association, has come under scrutiny from Antony Perumbavoor, who questioned the rationale behind Kumar's public declarations that do not reflect the consensus of the association's members.

Antony Perumbavoor highlighted that Anto Joseph is the head of the association and expressed curiosity as to why prominent figures like Anto have not publicly endorsed Suresh Kumar's statements if he is indeed representing the association's views.

In response to Suresh Kumar's criticisms concerning the Rs 100-crore clubs, Antony clarified that the Malayalam film industry is merely emulating practices observed in other sectors, emphasizing that it is the total gross revenue of a film that matters, rather than the share received by the producer.

Furthermore, Antony Perumbavoor questioned the validity of Suresh Kumar's claim that "if an actor makes a film, it will not be screened in Kerala."
