In one of the initial scenes of the 2019 film Lucifer, Mohanlal portrays Stephen Nedumpally as he approaches the location where the body of Kerala's chief minister, PK Ramdas (played by Sachin Khedekar), lies in state for the public to pay their final tributes. However, the late leader's daughter, Priyadarshini (Manju Warrier), strongly opposes Stephen's presence. In accordance with her wishes, the acting chief minister, Mahesha Varma (Sai Kumar), orders the police to halt traffic leading to the venue, effectively preventing Stephen from paying his last respects to PKR.
Stephen exits his vehicle and continues on foot, as the assembled crowd parts to allow him to pass. This moment has been widely regarded as one of the most thrilling scenes in Lucifer. Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, who also directed the film, revealed that this scene was inspired by something he had encountered regarding Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth.
The Influence of Rajinikanth on Lucifer
In a promotional discussion with Behindwoods, Prithviraj, who is preparing for the release of the second instalment in the Lucifer trilogy, Empuraan, explained that the scene was inspired by a report he read, which mentioned that Rajinikanth's vehicle was halted to permit the motorcade of then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to pass. Although Prithviraj did not delve into the specifics of the report, he expressed uncertainty about its accuracy.

The incident referenced by the actor-filmmaker reportedly took place around 2008 or 2009. After Rajinikanth's vehicle was halted, he allegedly inquired with the police officers who had obstructed traffic about the duration of the delay and expressed his suspicion that the stoppage might have been intentional. It is said that Rajinikanth then exited his car and began walking; one account suggests he headed towards his residence, while another indicates he walked to a nearby shop, where he purchased cigarettes and smoked.
Regardless of the specifics, the appearance of the superstar quickly attracted a large crowd, complicating the situation for the police, who subsequently allowed Rajinikanth's car to pass through the blockade.
